Why I Became an Educator

From a very early age, I loved education, learning, the school environment, school activities, and of course my teachers, coaches, and advisors. I was taught by my parents to honor them and over time grew to admire and respect them as professionals and people. Specifically, I marveled at their individual and collective knowledge, skill, creativity, passion, and communicative traits. They were my earliest and most impacting mentors and role models.

What excites me about my role at Fairmont?

Simply, in a word, THE PEOPLE! Also what is created by the people – the culture. Kettering City Schools, particularly Fairmont, has an overabundance of incredibly knowledgeable, skilled, creative, and highly effective professional educators. The most impressive element of this group is not their professional attributes (believe it or not). It is their personal qualities of high character and virtue, compassion and care for others, and dedication to something beyond just their content area. This mixture of professional and personal excellence is manifest into a culture that promotes ongoing learning, effective collaboration, and fervent dedication to our students, families, and community

My favorite thing about being a Firebird is…

We truly are a family bound by a wonderful school system, students and families, and greater community. There is something unique about Kettering and its relationship to its local government and the schools. It is hard to describe, but it extremely unique, and powerfully present in all we do as Firebirds. WE ARE FIREBIRDS…really is not so much a catch phrase or slogan, but it is a mantra that reflects the reality of living, working, and learning in community at Fairmont.

One thing I hope a Fairmont graduate leaves with after high school…Their overall experience at Fairmont was of the highest quality due to rigorous learning expectations, significantly diverse extra-curricular and co-curricular opportunities, the life-long friendships cultivated during their four years, and a sense that they were prepared…for life, professional and personal; challenges, big and small; and successes, those to celebrate and remember…Fairmont contributed in some significant way to one’s unique journey.
