Connecting Learning to Life

Robb Fogg has been teaching biology and other sciences in the Kettering Alternative program for 7 years. Teaching courses is just one part of the job. Robb says students want ways to connect the subject matter to their lives. Providing the opportunity for students to grow microgreens helps students see classroom concepts come to life. In partnership with local business owner David Oberst, students can see how microgreens are grown, harvested, and used through the use of an aeroponic grow chamber, housed behind the Barnes Building. Microgreens grown by students using aeroponic growing methods were included in 1000 lunches, distributed through Kettering City Schools Backpack Program! Students were not only learning by helping fellow students to have nutritious meals through the Summer.
